Are you aged 15 to 17 and living in Wirral South? Heard about how great the National Citizen Service (NCS) is?
It might be that you want to take part in NCS but are worried that you don’t have the money. If this is the case, the Wirral South Constituency might be able to help by offering you one of 27 bursaries funded by the team. This means that if your application is successful, you could take part in the summer NCS programme for free!
What is NCS?
The National Citizen Service is a potentially life-changing opportunity that can boost the confidence of young people and help them to learn new skills. It’s also a brilliant way to make new friends!
The two to four-week programme takes place outside of term time, in the spring, summer and autumn holidays. It consists of two short stays away from home, outdoor activities, a planning week, and 30 hours of part-time work spent on a community project.
NCS also offers important evidence for UCAS statements and job applications, and can be integrated with Citizenship lessons and the Duke of Edinburgh Gold award residential section.
What’s on offer?
Bursaries provided include the course signup fee (worth £20), the essential kit list – including waterproof jacket, water bottle and sleeping bag (worth £73) – plus £18.50 towards the public transport phase of the programme. This covers all of your expenses, and you will only need to bring packed lunches.
You can apply if you meet any of the below criteria:
- receiving free school meals
- in (or have been in) the care service
- receiving Disability Living Allowance
- claiming Job Seekers Allowance
- those who have a carer or family member who claim Carer’s Allowance
- young people who consider themselves homeless and do not receive benefits
South Wirral areas include: Bebington, Bromborough, Clatterbridge, Eastham, and Heswall. Full postcodes are available on request from NCS Coordinator Paula Baker, firstname.lastname@example.org / 0151 666 4367. You can also contact Paula if you have any questions about NCS.
