Last weekend football legend John Barnes visited The Hive Youth Zone in Birkenhead to help inspire young people to become members.

As the building work draws to a close on the new £6m centre, the team held a membership launch at Birkenhead Fire Station, next to the youth zone on Bright Street.

Joining ambassador John Barnes was the first junior member, eight year-old, Eva Easdown, and senior member Natasha Atkins, aged 16, who each paid their £5 annual membership to sign up and become the first ever Youth Zone members. Eva and Natasha will now only have to pay 50p per visit to The Hive – meaning they can access up to 20 activities, including sports and arts, every time they visit!

The first patrons of The Hive and the first volunteers were also at the event, plus staff members and the Chairman John Syvret CBE, as well as the Young People’s Development Group, which has been involved in the process from day one. The Young People’s Development Group formed the name ‘The Hive’, have helped to recruit staff, and have even had their say on the building’s design!
