Young disabled people

If you are a young person living with a disability in Wirral, there are several organisations out there to support you. Your Transition Plan is one way you can plan for what you want to achieve in your teenage years, as you move into adult life. They are usually first drawn up in Year 9 to help you prepare for the future and are reviewed each school year.

You can view the help available through the Your Future Your Choice Directory.

You can view leisure services for young disabled people on the Local Offer website.

Support for young disabled people:

WIRED

WIRED (Wirral Information Resource for Equality and Disability) is an organisation for disabled people and carers. It provides a range of services to disabled people, acting as an umbrella organisation for other local disability groups, and promoting the inclusion of disabled people in society.

Autism Together

For support with Autism, you can contact Autism Together, which has been dedicated to caring exclusively for people with autism for over 40 years. The team is committed to understanding each individual with this complex condition, and providing each with the structure to live life to the full, based on their personal needs and aspirations.

Short breaks for disabled children

Wirral Council provides short break services for disabled children.

Short breaks provide opportunities for disabled children and young people to spend time away from their primary carers. These include day, evening, overnight or weekend activities and take place in the child's own home, the home of an approved carer, or a residential or community setting.

Short breaks can also be activities offering a fun based experience for the family as a whole. Parents / carers can be present at these activities but there will be qualified and experienced deliverers leading the session to offer a break to them as primary carer. These activities offer a positive leisure experience for the whole family to access.
